TALK
Nobody Hired You to Write Code
The ticket was clear, the acceptance criteria were solid, and you shipped on time. Three months later, nobody uses that feature. So whose problem is that?
Most engineers would say it is product’s. Technically, they are not wrong. But this framing keeps talented engineers from making a greater impact, simply because their role stops before the code is ever used.
The Software Product Engineer mindset is not about becoming a product manager. It is about asking why a feature exists before how to build it, and pushing back on requirements that solve the wrong problem. It means owning not just the code, but whether your work actually solves a real-world problem.
In this talk, we will examine this shift in practice, not as an abstract principle, but in the everyday decisions engineers make. We will explore how to challenge what you are handed, where the line is between healthy ownership and overreach, and why this mindset is the true foundation of impactful engineering.
