TALK

Architecture for Flow: Building Foundations for Continuous Change

AI is making it easier than ever to write code and build software. Recent studies show that faster code generation doesn’t yet translate into faster value delivery. Accelerating individual parts of the system doesn't necessarily improve the performance of the whole. Existing architectural and organizational constraints, such as tightly coupled architecture, unclear ownership, and blocking dependencies between teams, can still slow down the flow of change. To benefit from AI acceleration, we need to look beyond code and optimize for both value delivery and future ability to change . This talk shows how Architecture for Flow helps organizations build foundations for continuous change, by combining Wardley Mapping, Domain-Driven Design, and Team Topologies to design adaptive socio-technical systems optimized for a fast flow of value and feedback.

Key takeaways:
- Why AI speeds up writing code but not shipping it, and where the flow of change gets stuck
- How to decide where to spend ownership capacity and where to maximize learning, when building is cheap but owning isn’t
- How bounded contexts preserve the ability to change, and why consistent domain language matters to both humans and LLMs
- How to align teams and platforms to customer-driven streams of change
- Why these foundations aren’t new, but matter more than ever, because AI amplifies whatever foundation you have

Researcher and Engineer · Independent

Andreas Rossberg is an independent researcher and engineer. By a few twists of fate, he became one of the designers of WebAssembly, author of its formalisation and specification, and champion of various proposals for enhancements. For a while, he was a Staff Software Engineer at Google, where he worked on V8, the JavaScript/Wasm virtual machine, and led V8's language feature team. Before his time in industry he was a post-doc researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems after receiving a Dr from Saarland University. His research interests mainly revolve around programming languages, ranging from foundational theory, over design, to implementation, as long as they aren't ugly.
